Balance

The Universe is always in a state of balance-a problem cannot exist unless the solution exists at the same time.

The cause of our problems and the solutions exist within us.

We have the resources within us to solve our problems and live a happy, successful life.

All we need to do is bring the solution into contact with the problem and it will be solved…

My Reiki Journey

Reiki literally walked into my life in 2006 in the form of my Reiki Master, Lorraine Murray, who suggested that I have a free session with her.

I was someone who rarely let anyone see me cry, let alone a stranger, so when I experienced a huge emotional-release during the session I knew that Reiki had a power all of its own and that I was supposed to add it to my self-healing toolkit.

Interestingly, after completing my twenty-one days self-healing, that followed my Reiki 1 course in November 2006, I quit nursing.

I think that Reiki helped me to realize that I was no longer meant to work in a medical environment and I resigned from a twenty-six-year career and opened my own Bach-practice in January 2007.

I had such amazing experiences using Reiki for myself and my family that I quickly did the Reiki 2 training because I was keen to continue my own self-healing but also wanted to be able to offer Reiki to clients.

Adding Reiki to my own life enhanced the gentle nudging of the Universe, through the Bach Flower remedies, towards the ability to open myself up to the receiving and giving of love. It also opened me up to the presence of Angels and Spirits which initially felt scary and exciting in equal measures…but that’s another story.

Reiki has deepened my belief that I am responsible for my life in-general but my wellbeing in-particular. I use it all day every day for many things including driving, cooking and any aches and pains I have. Reiki energy isn’t just about having or giving a healing session, it’s a way to live your life with a more positive viewpoint.

Distance-healing has replaced the sense of helplessness I once had about disastrous world-events because I can now ‘send’ Reiki to wherever I hear of healing being needed.

Pre-Reiki, when the Twin Towers were hit in 2001, I felt useless and helpless but when the Tsunami hit Fukushima in 2011, I felt helpful ‘sending’ Reiki to the Japanese people, knowing that it (and I) was being of use to them.

Reiki Sessions

Reiki is a non-invasive therapy and practitioners merely open a channel through which you can draw healing, universal-energy.

I cannot promise you that the pain in your neck will subside during a Reiki-session because perhaps you experienced an emotional-shock the previous week which needs healing more than your neck does. In fact, perhaps that pain in your neck is due to that shock being unhealed and you may need to have a couple of sessions to heal the shock before the Reiki redirects itself to your neck.

Reiki goes where it is most needed and can be used to heal on a physical, mental and emotional level

I can assure you that your healing begins, the minute you decide to book a session because you are showing willingness to opening yourself up to the power of self-healing.

Your Reiki sessions are carried out in a comfortable and safe environment and can be done in your own space, if preferred.

You will be reclined or seated and fully-clothed and I will guide you in a short meditation to help you relax. My hands are then placed in a series of positions, gently on or just above your head and body so that you can draw Reiki energy and use it in whatever way is most needed.

You don’t have to know or do anything except try to relax and be curious. You can keep your eyes open and move your position if you need to.

Reiki does the work all by itself and may be felt as a flow of energy, mild tingling, warmth, coolness, other sensations, or nothing at all. During the treatment, you may feel emotional but by the end of your session you will hopefully feel calmer, less-stressed and deeply-relaxed. We are both safe and protected so please don’t worry about anything scary happening or that I will ‘absorb’ your ‘stuff’ (or vice versa)

After a Reiki Session, drinking lots of water, to flush out any toxins and giving yourself permission to rest will enhance your treatment. Try to avoid alcohol and to be responsive to the needs of your body (rest, eat, drink) as this will allow the Reiki energy to continue its work after the session ends.

The beneficial-effects of a Reiki session may be felt for several days and include

  • Promotion of natural self-healing
  • Relief of stress and tension
  • Balancing of emotions
  • Strengthening of the immune system
  • Treatment of symptoms and causes of illness
  • Pain relief
  • Toxin clearing
  • Releasing of blocked and suppressed feelings
  • Freedom from restrictive mental attitudes
  • Improvement of relationships at home and at work
  • Enhancement of personal awareness

How often should I have Reiki?

One Reiki session can make a huge difference but it may be more effective for you to have a course of regular treatments. This can be weekly, fortnightly or monthly depending on your needs but a plan can be made and reviewed as necessary. Reiki can enhance everyday life and regular sessions help to ward-off illness and fatigue.

Remember, you are in-charge of your own healing and you can choose sessions that feel right for you.

Is Reiki safe?

Reiki is a gentle energy and can be used safely by all ages, including the newborn, pregnant mothers, surgical patients, the frail and the elderly, regardless of their state of health.

Reiki is non-invasive and can be used without fear of any side-effects or overdose. It can be used, alongside conventional medication or natural remedies because it acts in a complementary way. There is no belief-system attached to Reiki so anyone can receive a Reiki treatment or become a Reiki practitioner.

NOTE: Reiki does not take the place of conventional medicine so always consult your family doctor for acute or infectious conditions and for conditions causing urgent concern.

About Reiki

Reiki is a spiritual form of healing and was developed in Japan in the early 20th century.

The word Reiki (pronounced Ray-key) combines 2 Japanese words, Rei and Ki and is commonly translated as “universal life-energy.”

Reiki is activated through intention and its natural healing-energy works on mind, body and spirit to promote the body’s regenerative, self-healing ability.

Reiki encourages and supports positive personal change such as improving your diet, taking more rest, exercise or leisure time and it may reduce your need for alcohol and tobacco.

Reiki can help you to respond more calmly to situations and assist you in building a more positive attitude.

Eastern medicine has always recognized and worked with this energy, which flows through all living things and is vital to well-being. Acupuncture, T’ai chi and Yoga are also based on the free-flow of this energy in a person.

My Reiki teaching

I have been teaching Reiki since 2009 and I love watching my students ‘waking-up’ and embarking on their Reiki-journey.

I love all their many questions because I remember what it felt like, at the beginning when it seemed like there was just too much to believe.

I share my own Reiki-experiences and spiritual-beliefs whilst reminding students that their journey will be unique to them and that curiosity and openness are a good approach to whatever adventures lie ahead of them.

I feel hugely blessed to have been chosen as their teacher and to be there to guide and support my students.

Reiki-students go through a special initiation which ‘attunes’ them to the Reiki-energy. Over time, this connection is improved through practice and with using the Reiki-energy on themselves (self -healing) Like with meditation, it will always be practice because there is no Reiki-perfect.

It is important, if not essential, for a Reiki-practitioner to treat him or herself with Reiki. Like practice of anything, the more you repeat the practice, the better you become and Reiki is no different in some ways. The more you practice letting go of expectations and embracing possibilities, the easier it is for Reiki to flow.

Many people train at Level 1 for their own personal development and stress-management and that is what I thought I was doing more than a decade ago…and look where I have found myself.
